Raytheon receives $205 million contract to upgrade Phalanx Close-in Weapon Systems (CIWS)

Introduction:

Raytheon Company has received a contract of $205 million to provide Phalanx Close-in Weapon Systems (CIWS) upgrade kits, support equipment and hardware spares to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF).

Features:

Phalanx is a rapid-fire, computer-controlled radar and 20 mm gun system that automatically acquires, tracks and destroys enemy threats that have penetrated all other ship defense systems.
