The lightest and most advanced components are used to reduce the armour. At the same time, the operational height of the aircraft is also considered. Furthermore, integrating armour into the aircraft is complicated due to the many items fitted onto the airframe such as hatches, seats, and fire extinguishers.

The more, the airframe is not a completely stiff construction, but must be able to flex during flight and the armor installed must attached to be able to allow that. Scanfiber has been involved in different projects, protecting various areas of several different types of aircrafts. Some systems have been permanent fits, other have been removable system.
