Introduction:

Pratt & Whitney, a division of RTX, and Air New Zealand have officially launched a transformative project  for the US$150 million expansion of the Christchurch Engine Centre in New Zealand.

Features:

The expansion introduces maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for Pratt & Whitney's GTF™ engines in New Zealand.
Currently employing over 400 highly skilled professionals, the facility has successfully overhauled more than 1,500 IAE International Aero Engines AG V2500 engines.

This partnership between Air New Zealand and global aviation leader Pratt & Whitney represents a major investment in New Zealand's economy, enhances our aviation industry capabilities, and creates 200 high-value jobs in the Canterbury region.

The new GTF repair capabilities will be introduced in 2026, ensuring the Christchurch Engine Centre continues to maintain, repair, and overhaul both the V2500 and PW1100G-JM engines for years to come.

This investment is a tremendous vote of confidence in the Christchurch Engine Centre and our city. The creation of 200 new jobs is fantastic for our local economy and strengthens Christchurch’s position as a leading hub for technology and aerospace. I’m excited to see this new facility take flight.

Construction on the facility expansion is set to commence this month, with the first GTF engine overhaul anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2026.
