Agilent Technologies Awarded $35 Million Contract by U.S. Army for Microwave Signal Generators

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today announced that it has been awarded a $35 million contract by the U.S. Army. Under the terms of the contract, Agilent will deliver up to 1,600 MXG microwave analog signal generators over seven years, to the Army as part of its Test Equipment Modernization (TEMOD) program. The TEMOD program was created to replace obsolete general-purpose test equipment with state-of-the-art alternatives. Its mission is to improve the readiness of current and future Army systems, while reducing operating and support costs. In 2008, the TEMOD program office began investigating options for replacing its inventory of old, obsolete microwave signal generators from several vendors -- some of whom are no longer in business -- with a single modern, supportable unit. Following a thorough, 10-month technical evaluation, the Army selected Agilent’s MXG microwave signal generator as the ideal replacement. Agilent will provide the Army with a special version of the MXG tailored to its requirements. The N5183M MXG microwave analog signal generator offers the same low-cost design, increased measurement accuracy, improved test times and maximized uptimes, that are common across the entire MXG family of analog and vector signal generators. “This win marks a significant achievement for Agilent and demonstrates the successful collaboration that can occur when Agilent works hand-in-hand with a customer,” said Guy Séné, vice president and general manager of Agilent’s Microwave and Communications Division. “Agilent began working with the TEMOD program office back in 2008, reviewing draft specifications and providing comments. Over the years, this relationship has allowed Agilent to react quickly to overcome any obstacles and ultimately provide the U.S. Army with the cost-effective microwave signal generator replacement it demanded.”
