Introduction

Raytheon, an RTX business, has received a five-year contract worth up to $24.4 billion to produce Standard Missile-6 (SM-6) interceptors. The agreement also includes two additional option years and is intended to increase the availability of the multi-mission weapon for offensive strike and missile defence operations.

Features

The contract will support higher production of SM-6 interceptors as demand for the weapon continues to grow. Raytheon has been increasing its production capabilities by expanding its skilled workforce, strengthening partnerships across the defence industrial base and introducing greater automation.

The company has also invested in its manufacturing operations and facilities to reduce production constraints and increase capacity. These efforts are expected to support higher output to meet both current and future requirements.

The SM-6 is a multi-mission weapon designed for anti-air warfare, anti-surface warfare and ballistic missile defence. It has been deployed from US Navy ships and land-based launch systems, providing the fleet with a flexible capability against a range of kinetic threats.
