Ze Government Solutions Announces Air Force Sbir Phase I Contract To Deploy Ai-based Threat Detection On Indoor Drones

11 August 2023

ZE Government Solutions, a fully owned subsidiary of ZeroEyes, a leading AI-based gun detection company, has announced its selection by AFWERX to undertake an SBIR Phase I contract. This contract is geared towards harnessing the capabilities of indoor drones for threat detection, aiming to address gaps in the Department of the Air Force's (DAF) security.

The proposed solution will amalgamate ZEGS' AI-powered object detection video analytics with unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) tailored for confined spaces. By doing so, this integration will provide proactive situational awareness to operators and force protection teams. This empowers them to swiftly respond to threats in indoor and restricted environments, which are typically unsuitable for conventional UAS platforms.

AFWERX, in partnership with the Air Force Research Laboratory, is dedicated to streamlining the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) processes. This is achieved by expediting the journey from proposal to award, broadening the pool of potential small business applicants, and reducing bureaucratic overhead. The 'The Open Topic' SBIR/STTR program, initiated in 2018 by the DAF, has expanded the scope of innovations funded by the department. In August 2023, ZEGS is poised to further its mission of developing innovative capabilities that bolster the national defense of the United States.

Mike Lahiff, CEO and co-founder of ZeroEyes, the parent company of ZEGS, emphasized the value of aerial footage from UAS systems in assessing threatening scenarios. He highlighted that advanced technology, such as their AI-based gun detection solution, equips these platforms to furnish actionable intelligence before hazardous incidents unfold, thereby enhancing the decision-making processes of military personnel.
