U.S. Space Force Awards Booz Allen $630M Systems Engineering and Integration Contract

5 October 2023

Booz Allen Hamilton has announced the acquisition of a substantial seven-year, $630 million, single-award contract with the U.S. Space Force. This contract will entail providing support for systems engineering and integration for cutting-edge space-based missile warning systems, environmental monitoring, surveillance, reconnaissance, and tracking capabilities. As part of this engagement, Booz Allen will play a crucial role in bolstering resilient space sensing capabilities for the Space Systems Command (SSC), which serves as the Space Force's field command responsible for space development, acquisition, launch, and logistics. Additionally, Booz Allen will play a pivotal role in the integration of the Next Generation Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) program, a $14.4 billion initiative aimed at enhancing U.S. missile warning and missile tracking capabilities to counter emerging missile threats.

This contract will leverage Booz Allen's extensive expertise and capabilities in digital engineering, mission integration, agile software development, cybersecurity, change management, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML). The goal is to support the Space Force in realizing its vision of a Digital Service. It underscores the critical importance of the space domain in providing vital decision-making information to the nation's warfighters and intelligence agencies to safeguard national security.

Andrea Inserra, Executive Vice President and leader in Booz Allen's Aerospace business, which encompasses critical work for the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, U.S. Space Command, and NASA, highlighted Booz Allen's longstanding partnership with the defense and space sectors. The company has been a trusted partner for over 50 years, dating back to the nation's first missile defense strategy. Inserra expressed enthusiasm about this development and Booz Allen's continued collaboration with Space Force and the Department of Defense on missions crucial for maintaining space superiority and ensuring actionable information is available across various domains.

The majority of the contract work will be based in El Segundo, California, as well as Colorado Springs and Aurora, Colorado. Booz Allen will have the flexibility to tap into its teams and technology capabilities at additional locations across the United States as necessary.

Eric Hoffman, Vice President and leader in Booz Allen's space business, emphasized that this contract win aligns with the company's long-term, multiyear space strategy, focusing on bridging the gap between mission and technology to meet client needs effectively. It reinforces Booz Allen's position as a leader in developing and delivering top-tier, mission-critical systems engineering, cyber architecture, and remote sensing capabilities to uphold U.S. space supremacy.

This achievement builds upon Booz Allen's rich history in providing innovative space solutions. The firm's portfolio includes over 50 years of multifaceted support for the International Space Station, involvement in the modernization of NASA's infrastructure and policies, contributions to engineering and analysis for the Artemis mission, and the Cybersecurity and Privacy Enterprise Solutions and Services (CyPrESS) contract—a milestone initiative that marks the first time NASA has unified cybersecurity efforts for IT, operational technology, and mission systems under a single contract.
