US Air Force awards RTX $39 million for air defense command and control prototype

4 October 2023

The U.S. Air Force has granted Raytheon, a business under RTX (NYSE: RTX), a $39 million contract for the development and integration of the service's Battle Management Command and Control software into a prototype designed for air base air defense.

Under the terms of this contract, Raytheon will establish the command-and-control infrastructure necessary to counter aerial threats and safeguard U.S. air bases worldwide.

Paul Ferraro, President of Air Power at Raytheon, stated, "This contract empowers Raytheon to construct a prototype that is not only prepared to address current threats but also possesses the flexibility to seamlessly integrate with the most advanced sensors, effectors, and algorithms as technology progresses. We will leverage our distinctive decision-making tools, in conjunction with various partner components, to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in complex attack scenarios while reducing the manpower required to operate the system."

In 2022, Raytheon initially introduced an Air Base Air Defense solution in Andoya, Norway, in collaboration with the Air Force Research Lab. This new prototype will build upon the valuable insights gained from that experiment.
