Ten Satellites Incorporating Terran Orbital Buses Launch as Part of Space Development Agency’s Tranche 0 Mission

19 September 2023

Terran Orbital Corporation, a leading manufacturer of satellite products primarily serving the aerospace and defense sectors, has announced a significant milestone: ten satellites equipped with Terran Orbital buses were successfully launched into low Earth orbit on September 2, 2023, from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. These ten satellites are a crucial component of the Tranche 0 Transport Layer within the Space Development Agency's (SDA) Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA). Terran Orbital manufactured these cutting-edge satellite buses for Lockheed Martin, responsible for payload integration and delivery to the SDA.

Marc Bell, Co-Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Terran Orbital, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to this important mission. He highlighted the collaboration with Lockheed Martin and the chance to leverage their expertise in small satellite solutions to support critical missions. Presently, Terran Orbital is in the process of producing 42 satellite buses for Lockheed Martin, which will ultimately deploy 42 Tranche 1 Transport Layer satellites for the SDA. These forthcoming satellites are scheduled for launch in 2024 and will boast an array of capabilities, including optical communications links, Link-16 mission communications, a Ka-band RF communications payload, and a BMC3 module facilitating on-orbit data processing. These advanced features are set to enhance support for missions involving global warfighters.
