Teledyne FLIR Defense Signs $31 Million Contract with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace for C-UAS Systems for Ukraine

30 August 2023

Teledyne FLIR Defense, a division of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated  has secured a contract with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace based in Norway. The contract, valued at approximately $31 million, entails the provision of the Cerberus® XL mobile counter-unmanned aerial system (UAS) as a vital component of a comprehensive counter-UAS solution for Ukraine. This agreement encompasses the delivery of surveillance platforms, software, spare parts, support, and training.

Kongsberg recently entered into an arrangement with the International Fund for Ukraine (IFU) to furnish counter-drone systems as a donation to the conflict-affected nation. The IFU was established by international partners, including the UK, to promptly identify and acquire critical capabilities for swift deployment in Ukraine. Numerous countries, including Norway and the UK, have contributed to the fund.

The Cerberus XL system integrates an advanced thermal/visual imaging mechanism with highly sensitive radar sensors on a mobile platform, enabling swift detection and tracking of UAS targets. Subsequently, Kongsberg employs the data from Cerberus in its remote weapons station to neutralize and eliminate the threat.

Dr. JihFen Lei, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Teledyne FLIR Defense, expressed, "Teledyne FLIR is honored to collaborate with Kongsberg to deploy our next-generation Cerberus XL as part of a comprehensive and robust system to safeguard Ukraine's frontline personnel. Our longstanding history of providing cutting-edge imaging solutions to Kongsberg is further bolstered by this significant joint endeavor."

Beyond the Cerberus systems, Teledyne FLIR is contributing to Ukraine's defense with additional advanced military technology, including the Black Hornet® nano-drone. The Black Hornet 3 is currently being utilized by Ukrainian forces, facilitated by donations from the British and Norwegian governments.
