Spencer Johnson has assumed the role of Ship Design Director at Birdon, leveraging his extensive background in shipbuilding, Naval Architecture, and Engineering. In his new capacity, Spencer will spearhead Birdon's Engineering and Integrated Product Teams, steering them towards the successful delivery of 27 vessels as part of the Waterways Commerce Cutter (WCC) Program for the U.S. Coast Guard.

Spencer boasts over 30 years of experience as a Naval Architect, with a decade spent as Austal USA's Chief Naval Architect. He brings extensive engineering management acumen garnered from both Navy and commercial shipbuilding undertakings, successfully overseeing various design and build initiatives from initial concept to post-delivery support. During his tenure at Austal USA, Spencer led the design of multiple Navy vessels, including T-AGOS, LAW, and LUSV. As Chief Naval Architect, he directed a department comprising over 100 engineers and designers, driving engineering, design, and production support for two major Navy shipbuilding programs, namely LCS and EPF. Spencer is a graduate of Webb Institute and earned recognition as the 2022 Marine Engineer/Naval Architect of the Year from the Mobile Area Council of Engineers (MACE).
