Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of RTX (NYSE: RTX), has secured a contract worth $36 million from the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory. The contract entails the development and demonstration of a platform-agnostic, Beyond-Line-Of-Sight (BLOS) satellite communications pod.

This communications pod has been designed to furnish warfighters with robust, high-bandwidth, and low-latency communications, delivering data directly to the cockpit. By amalgamating both military and commercial satellites, the pod enhances the resilience of host platforms. Moreover, it possesses the capability to seamlessly switch between services provided by different vendors with minimal or no hardware adjustments. Additionally, the pod is equipped to harness upcoming satellite constellations as they become operational.

Ryan Bunge, Vice President of Communication & Networking Solutions at Collins Aerospace, underscored the significance of unimpeded communication pathways in contested scenarios. He stated, "In environments fraught with challenges, ensuring uninterrupted communication between warfighters and operators is of paramount importance. This resilient communications terminal has been meticulously crafted to withstand adverse conditions, thereby augmenting the situational awareness of military leaders. This heightened awareness facilitates quicker and more informed decisions across the battlespace."
