Picogrid Signs a Research Agreement with MIT MIx

21 September 2023

Picogrid, a tech startup based in California, has joined forces with Mission Innovation X (MIx), an initiative originating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), to embark on collaborative research endeavors aimed at advancing technology within the defense sector.

Tony Lugo, Head of Government Solutions at Picogrid, remarked, "Both Picogrid and MIT MIx are organizations propelled by a shared mission, driven by a commitment to excellence, and dedicated to open research for the betterment of the public sector."

This collaboration has been initiated through the awarding of three distinct contracts by the Pentagon in 2023 under the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program. These contracts are in alignment with one of the Pentagon's foremost priorities: the establishment of a more interconnected defense ecosystem known as Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2). Notably, Picogrid recently secured an Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract valued at $950 million with the Air Force, specifically geared towards addressing this priority. The emerging JADC2 doctrine is set to impact every facet of Pentagon programs and professional domains in the forthcoming years.

These three collaborative STTR contracts represent a pivotal opportunity for Picogrid and MIT MIx to integrate and field-test Picogrid's solutions within the U.S. Air Force and Space Force. The overarching objective is to significantly augment the mission capabilities and operational efficiency of the Department of Defense, as well as collaborating with international allies in this pursuit.
