Saab Unveils New Coast Control Radar

Saab is set to unveil its new Coast Control Radar at the upcoming International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) in the United Arab Emirates. Developed in the UAE, this advanced radar represents the next generation of phased-array, non-rotating, software-defined surveillance systems.
With maritime security playing an increasingly vital role in national sovereignty and global economic stability, Saab’s Coast Control Radar is designed to enhance the monitoring and safeguarding of territorial waters and maritime traffic. Its compact, modular structure delivers exceptional performance, particularly in detecting and tracking small vessels within challenging coastal environments.
Engineered for seamless integration into existing infrastructure—such as buildings, towers, and waterway bridges—the radar offers flexible installation options and up to 360-degree coverage. Its modular architecture simplifies deployment while supporting regular software upgrades to maintain peak detection performance.
“As a global leader in radar technology, we are proud to launch the Coast Control Radar—developed here in the UAE—at IDEX,” said Heléne Bittmann, Managing Director of Saab UAE. “The Middle East is a critical region for secure maritime transit, and our solution offers nations a powerful tool for protecting key economic routes and ensuring maritime safety.”
Key Features of the Coast Control Radar:
- Built on Saab’s proven military-grade radar technology for dual-use applications
- Non-rotating phased-array design with a compact and modular footprint
- Capable of detecting small and fast-moving targets at long range, even in harsh conditions
- Low-maintenance design ensuring high availability and cost-effective lifecycle
- Software-defined architecture enabling automation and continuous performance upgrades
Developed at Saab’s R&D facility in Tawazun Industrial Park, Abu Dhabi, the Coast Control Radar reflects Saab’s ongoing investment in strengthening the UAE’s defence and security capabilities.
