airforce / fire control surveillance targeting

Fire Control, Surveillance and Targeting systems is the key to detecting surface, water and airborne threats and targets. Aerospace & Defense use optronics to achieve this.

Infrared-based search and tracking devices are used by military aircrafts for surveillance and fire control. These devices have sophisticated algorithms coded into them for detecting airborne threats and targets.

Military aircrafts use targeting pods for digitally locking the enemy on the line of fire. These pods are generally laser guided systems, as lasers provide accurate long range targeting. Some pods also use Infra Red.

India has its own surveillance pod innovation called the Airborne Surveillance Platform (ASP), an Indian Defense project initiated by the Defense Research and Development Organization with the aim to produce an Airborne Early Warning System.

The project was revived in 2004 after a long hiatus.
