NEW YORK, Dec. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- House Speaker Paul Ryan and Ambassador Nikki Haley were honored at the annual Hudson Institute Award Gala, held last night at the Intercontinental Barclay in Manhattan. Speaker Ryan, who could not be present due to duties at the memorial service for Pres. George H.W. Bush at the U.S. Capitol, received the Herman Kahn Award for his dedication to economy-strengthening policy reform. Ambassador Haley received the Global Leadership Award for championing human rights and American leadership abroad. The honorees were introduced by Hudson Institute President Kenneth Weinstein and businessman Paul Singer.

"[Nikki Haley] and Paul Ryan each represent an important part of the story of Hudson Institute," said Hudson Institute President Kenneth Weinstein in his remarks. "[they have proven that] U.S. leadership requires a dynamic and thriving economy, and moral clarity in the so-called 'community of nations.'"

"Hudson Institute understands something that's very important," said Amb. Haley in her remarks. "American leadership is indispensable to the advancement of freedom."

"We all stand on the shoulders of intellectual giants like Herman Kahn," said Speaker Ryan in his video remarks. "I am grateful for this chance to thank the Hudson Institute…We have been working together for a long time to implement pro-growth ideas. All of our work: Tax reform, regulatory reform, opportunity zones. It's about placing a foundation underneath the economy. It's about building a pro-growth America. It's about building a resilience to the challenges that may come our way."

The Kahn Award and Global Leadership Awards are presented to leading public servants who exemplify foresight, strategic vision, and a commitment to Western alliances as the bedrock of global security, in the spirit of Hudson Institute founder Herman Kahn.
