Defence Giant Qinetiq Wins £1m Contract To Develop A Trial Drones System For MoD

2 May 2016

Defence giant Qinetiq has won an important contract to develop a system capable of controlling a number of drones simultaneously.

The technology will use drone aircraft to locate sea mines and then switch control to an unmanned underwater vessel to make them safe.

It is the first time the technology will control airborne and underwater drones made by different manufacturers from the same device.

The contract with the Ministry of Defence is worth £1million, which will pay for one demonstration unit.

It will play a central role at a Royal Navy event called Unmanned Warrior, which will showcase the high-tech systems in October.
