Smith Detection won a US$90.8 million IDIQ contract to manufacture adapters for the US Department of Defense Joint Chemical Warfare Agent Detector
24 October 2020
Smiths Detection Inc. (SDI), a global leader in threat detection and security screening technology, announced that it has cooperated with the U.S. Department of Defense (Smiths Detection Inc., SDI). DoD) signs an irregular delivery/undefined quantity (IDIQ) contract and will start the manufacture of solid-liquid adapters (SLA). The contract has a maximum subscription period of nine (9) years and a potential value of more than US$90.8 million. SLA will bring more new detection and identification functions to the Joint Chemical Warfare Agent Detector (JCAD), one of the largest chemical detection projects in the history of the Department of Defense.
After JCAD is equipped with SLA (JCAD SLA), SLA operators will be able to test illegal drugs, including opioids such as fentanyl, as well as explosive compounds, without affecting JCAD's conventional chemical warfare agent detection capabilities.
When talking about this newly developed technology, Shan Hood, President of Smith Detection, said: “SLA uses existing technology to expand the functions of widely deployed detection equipment and extend its service life. This is Smith Detection through innovative technology and Digital applications to help customers maximize the return on investment today, while facing an example of the future.
JCAD is based on Smith Detection's Lightweight Chemical Detector (LCD) product line, which provides advanced and easy-to-use lightweight threat detection equipment that can be hand-held or easily fixed on a belt. LCD is a cost-effective and reliable solution that reminds operators of detected toxic substances and hazardous chemicals to protect military personnel, police, and dangerous goods handlers.
