Frontgrade Achieves Industry's First Class-L GaN DC-DC Converter and EMI Filter Qualification
20 February 2025
Frontgrade Technologies, a leading provider of critical aerospace and defense electronics, is the first company to successfully qualify for Class L standards with its gallium nitride (GaN) DC-DC converter and complementary electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter.
Under Defense Logistics Agency specification MIL-PRF-38534, Class L qualification verifies the ability of these devices to meet the most stringent performance requirements for space missions from low Earth orbit (LEO) to geostationary Earth orbit (GEO).
Frontgrade’s new single-stage isolated converters leverage advanced GaN FET technology to provide spacecraft designers with the industry’s most efficient power conversion modules, achieving 93% efficiency.
With faster switching and improved efficiency, the company’s GaN DC-DC converter quickly responds to dynamic power demands and provides multiple voltage outputs for maximum flexibility. The device is designed to seamlessly convert power from the bus to the point of load, ensuring optimum efficiency for current and future space applications.
“ The launch of an efficient power solution that meets stringent L-Class requirements confirms that our GaN converter can reliably meet the critical power management needs of next-generation satellites,” said Lorne Graves, Chief Technology Officer at Frontgrade Technologies. “ With Frontgrade’s ready-to-fly modules and evaluation test boards, our customers can accelerate their development cycles and achieve on-time mission success.”
Flight and engineering modules and evaluation test boards are now available, providing essential tools for the development, test and deployment of critical space systems.
