Frier receives additional $ 26 million contract for US Army nuclear, biological and chemical reconnaissance vehicle program
21 October 2020
FLIR Systems Underpins US Army Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Reconnaissance Vehicle Sensor Suite Upgrade (NBCRV SSU) Program Announced that it has won a $ 26 million amendment contract. This Other Trading Authority (OTA) agreement was obtained through the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense Integrated Planning Office (JPEO-CBRND) in addition to the $ 48 million agreement announced in April 2019.
FLIR is the central integrator for the modernization of the US Army NBCRV system with improved autonomous CBRN sensors. Earlier this year, we delivered the first prototype of the NBC RV SSU system for a centralized evaluation in Fort Bliss, Texas. Soldiers used Friar's prototype to detect and quickly avoid CBRN hazards in realistic battlefield scenarios. With this new agreement, Friar will continue to develop sensor suites for government testing in 2021 and will be able to deliver mature prototypes.
Among other third-party solutions, the NBC RV sensor suite features the features of the Friar R80D Sky Raider ™ drone, which incorporates a special version of the Frier IBAC biodetection sensor. In this next step, NBC RV will be combined with ground robot vehicles to expand the range of use of the system in manned and unmanned teams. The command and control system developed by FLIR integrates all devices and platforms with sensor fusion and automation capabilities to reduce the cognitive burden on users and improve decision making.
Roger Wells, Vice President and General Manager of FLIR's Unmanned Systems and Integrated Solutions Business, said: “Our ability to build and integrate manned and unmanned sensing solutions across a wide range of threats is what sets Frier apart. Integrating the UAV and UGV platforms into NBC RV is the full sensing capability It is in line with our efforts toward the development of the Japanese military, and it is a means of strengthening the troops of our armed forces and increasing the success rate of operations. "
Wells added, "Whether it's an aerial or ground-based detection system, Friar has a unique position in the defense industry, with deep experience in both intelligent sensor and autonomous system technology. We keep the fighters safe. "
Frier also supports other efforts by JPEO-CBRND. Last year, we won more than $ 55 million in two contracts to deploy the FLIR Agentase ™ C2 chemical warfare detection spray formulated to detect nerve agents such as VX and sarin and blister agents such as mustard gas. ..
Work on the NBCRV program has begun and will continue through the end of 2022 at our facilities in West Lafayette, Indiana, Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Elkridge, Maryland.
