American Rheinmetall Awarded $31 Million Contract to Support Rapid Damage Assessment and Repair for U.S. Army and Ukrainian Forces’ Bradley Fighting Vehicles

American Rheinmetall has been awarded a contract valued at $31 million to lead an 18-month Rapid Damage Assessment and Repair (DAR) Demonstration, focusing on the U.S. Army and the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) and their fleets of Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFV) [3]. The effort, administered by the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS), reflects a growing U.S. and allied commitment to advancing battlefield sustainment technologies—vital for military vehicles operating in high-tempo, contested environments.
The project will develop and validate advanced processes and technologies, including forward-deployed repair teams equipped with state-of-the-art tools, diagnostics, and a responsive supply chain. The aim is to enable assessments and repairs significantly closer to combat areas. This solution bridges a critical gap: allowing repair work before vehicles must be evacuated for lengthy, full depot-level restoration, thus maintaining mission readiness and minimizing equipment downtime.
Bradley IFVs, key to mechanized infantry operations, play a pivotal role in the ongoing European security environment. The partnership leverages American Rheinmetall’s experience with digitalized diagnostics, mobile maintenance kits, and modular component technologies. The DAR program will use the Bradley as the demonstration platform, but its processes and logistics concepts are designed for applicability to a wide class of armored ground vehicles used by the Army and partner nations. Teams trained under the program will establish scalable remote sites using a flexible, risk-tolerant model, enabling vital sustainment under hazardous or austere conditions—a necessity in both U.S. Army and Ukrainian wartime support theaters.
From a business perspective, this contract underscores the increasing demand for logistics and sustainment innovation in the defense sector—supporting fleet readiness, allied interoperability, and the extension of high-value equipment service life.
