The first half-year saw a mixed picture for HUBER+SUHNER: a significant increase in net sales – compared to the very strong previous year period – stood in contrast to a slightly reduced profitability. Order intake rose sharply to CHF 425.1 million (+9.5 %), while net sales also increased dynamically to CHF 410.7 million (+7.7 %). Growth in net sales, adjusted for currency and copper effects (+0.3 %) and portfolio effects (+2.2 %) was 5.2 %.

HUBER+SUHNER recorded a dynamic first half year. In organic terms, all three divisions achieved higher net sales than in the previous year and increased earning power. Order intake reached CHF 388.4 million (+9.0 %), while net sales grew to CHF 381.2 million (+7.1 %). In organic terms, i.e. excluding currency and copper effects (+0.6 %) as well as portfolio effects (-0.2 %), growth in net sales amounted to 6.6%.

After more than 20 years of successful collaboration, Bombardier Transportation has named HUBER+SUHNER as A-supplier for its cable requirements. Bombardier intends to equip existing and new rolling stock throughout the world predominantly with RADOX® EN and GKW cables. In the future, majority of cables in trains and metro carriages manufactured by Bombardier will be based on HUBER+SUHNER connectivity solutions.

The Fiber Optics division has grown rapidly in recent years and has expanded its portfolio with two acquisitions. In the first months of the current year the business development of HUBER+SUHNER was very positive. From today's perspective, the company expects an increase of net sales of more than 5 % for the first half of the year 2016 compared to the previous first half. Also extremely positive is the development of the profitability. HUBER+SUHNER expects a net profit significantly higher than in the previous year’s period and an EBIT margin exceeding the mid-term target range of 6–9 % slightly.

With RF-over-Fiber in the Aerospace+Defense Market

The interest in HUBER+SUHNER’s RF-over-Fiber Series has been phenomenal since its launch in June 2015. The Aerospace+Defense market, in particular, has been key to our success in expanding our capabilities and to developing products that meet our customers’ application needs.

HUBER+SUHNER Group completes the takeover of Polatis on schedule

On 30 May 2016 HUBER+SUHNER signed the contracts to take over Polatis, a group headquartered in Bedford, MA (USA) and Cambridge, UK (press release of HUBER+SUHNER on 31 May 2016). In the meantime, all legal steps to close the transaction were implemented.

Effective 8 June 2016, Polatis has become legally part of the HUBER+SUHNER Group.

HUBER+SUHNER acquires Polatis and further strengthens its position as the leading innovator in fiber optics

On 30 May 2016 HUBER+SUHNER signed the contracts to take over Polatis, a group headquartered in Bedford, MA (USA) and Cambridge, UK with USD 13 million sales and 110 employees. Polatis develops, produces and sells all-optical network switches. This innovative technology enables improved capacity utilisation in data centers and advanced data management in large telecommunication networks. Both applications are strategic growth areas of HUBER+SUHNER. The closing of the acquisition is expected in June. The parties agreed not to disclose the financial terms. The purchase will be financed entirely from company funds.
